Clinical, Business and Strategic Planning
Strategic planning examines all aspects of an organization to determine future direction. Clinical redesign and Business business process redesign are targeted types of planning that may or may not be part of a strategic planning process.
MCPP uses a classic strategic planning tool to set the stage for organizational redesign and helps participants organize and understand the issues: a strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats (SWOT) analysis.
An important aspect of the strengths and weaknesses internal performance assessment is an examination of baseline performance data on quality, access, utilization and cost, benchmarked against other organizations or published performance measures.
The opportunities and threats external market analysis for service providers requires gathering information regarding the local environment, such as:
- What are the characteristics of the population(s) in your service area, mandate, or those you would like to serve?
- Are significant changes occurring in those population(s)?
- Who are the major payors, what do they want, and how are they structuring contracts?
An organization planning for the future should create alternate scenarios regarding what might come to pass and ask: Which strategic goals will give us leverage in most or all of the possible scenarios? Where is there a match between our strengths and opportunities or our weaknesses and threats? These questions help focus the development of strategic goals and objectives.
MCPP consultants help our clients at any point in these processes, from the analysis of performance to facilitation of goal setting or development of detailed work plans.
